Nitric Oxide Regulates the Ralstonia solanacearum Type III Secretion System
Ralstonia solancearum is a gram-negative soil-borne betaproteobacterium that causes bacterial wilt disease on a wide range of plant hosts, including important crops like tomato, potato, and banana (Elphinstone 2005). The bacteria survive in and are spread through infected soil and water, infecting host roots through wounds and natural openings (Vasse et al. 1994). Once inside, R. solanacearum cells move to the xylem, in which they can grow and spread throughout the plant.
