Wall Street has developed an unusual relationship with economic data lately: bad news can sometimes be precisely what stocks need. With inflation remaining stubbornly elevated and the Federal Reserve having raised interest rates for the first time in three years last month, investors have been increasingly worried about how much more monetary tightening the economy can withstand.

In the past 52 weeks, Microsoft (MSFT) stock has remained mostly sideways. However, from June 2026 lows of $349, MSFT stock has rallied by 46.9%. The strong comeback has proved naysayers wrong, and there might still be juice in the rally. Wells Fargo added the software giant to its Q4 list of tactical ideas with an “Overweight” rating and a Street-high price target of $725. Analyst Michael Turrin believes that valuations are attractive and several catalysts are lined up.

December arabica coffee (KCZ26) is up +1.25 (+0.43%) today, and November ICE robusta coffee (RMX26) is up +47 (+1.36%). Coffee prices are climbing today, with robusta posting a 5-week high as a weaker dollar has spurred some short covering in coffee futures. On Wednesday, arabica coffee rallied to a 3-week high as dry conditions in Brazil could hurt the prospects for Brazil’s 2026/27 coffee crop, currently in its all-important flowering stage.

Roblox (RBLX) shares came under pressure after Jefferies downgraded the stock to “Underperform” from “Hold,” arguing that the rally following the company’s second-quarter results had priced in an “overly optimistic” bookings outlook. Analyst James Heaney maintained a $38 price target, implying over 12% downside from RBLX stock’s Oct. 1 close, and said improvements in U.S. and Canadian users and bookings could take longer and cost more than investors expect.

GameStop (GME) CEO Ryan Cohen once again increased his stake in the business by buying $10.6 million worth of GME shares. A regulatory filing showed that Cohen acquired 450,000 Class A common shares. The transactions were executed in two blocks: one of 446,500 shares at a weighted-average price of $23.4753 and an additional 3,500 shares at $23.4499 per share. This purchase comes after Cohen already made two big-budget buys in GameStop stock. First, he purchased 1 million shares for $20.3 million.

Anthropic, the AI developer behind the Claude assistant, has issued invitations for an October 14 investor gathering at its San Francisco headquarters — effectively firing the starting gun on what could become the largest initial public offering (IPO) in history, with prospective investors pegging a fair valuation between $1.8 trillion and $2 trillion.

However, analyst sentiment is mixed, with some warning the stock is “overvalued” or rating it a “Hold.” Today’s Featured Stock Valued at $390 million, Twin Disc (TWIN) designs, manufactures, and sells heavy duty off-highway power transmission equipment.

The dollar index (DXY00) is down by -0.32% today. A weaker-than-expected US Sep payroll report is weighing on the dollar today. Both non-farm payrolls and average hourly earnings rose less than expected, reducing the chance of a Fed rate hike later this month. Today’s -4% plunge in WTI crude oil is lowering inflation expectations and could persuade the Fed to loosen monetary policy, a bearish factor for the dollar.

Memory stocks have rarely looked this secure. Samsung, SK hynix (SKHY), and Micron (MU) have already secured major customer commitments for HBM and DRAM, with supply agreements stretching into 2027. Several cloud giants have also signed long-term agreements (LTAs) to lock in supply. To many investors, that looks like protection against the next downturn. I’m not so sure.
