Located on a compact infill site in the heart of Eastsound, the main village on Orcas Island, this new structure introduces a building type previously unseen in the town: a combined artist-in-residence studio, gallery, residence, and office. Clarksville Residence by Michael Hsu Office of Architecture
Located in Austin’s historic Clarksville neighborhood, this unique contemporary private residence is shaped by a constrained urban site and two preserved heritage oaks. These trees guide the home’s massing and form a central courtyard, bringing light, privacy, and a modern interpretation of Clarksville’s front porch culture to the heart of the house. A sculptural roofline and a restrained palette of brick, stucco, and steel establish a quiet yet distinctive presence.

Columnating by Found Projects
Columnating is a scenic overlook pavilion located along a highway by the ocean. The site, consisting of three parts, unifies the viewing pavilion, parking lot, and lawn into a single territory by introducing a curved concrete retaining wall. The height of the retaining wall gradually increases from east to west, reminiscent of large land art that interacts with the terrain. The oceanfront pavilion inherits the existing structural grid and expands it toward the south.

Located on Londres Street in Colonia Juárez, the building combines collective housing with ground-floor retail. The proposal makes the most of the site through an organization of two volumes articulated by a central courtyard and a rear courtyard, which ensure natural light and cross ventilation. The brief called for maximizing the use of the lot through two- and three-bedroom units.
