Both exhibitions were impressive and inspiring. The Hong Kong Museum of Art (HKMoA) received a generous donation of more than 2000 Qing dynasty Cantonese and export artefacts from Dr Simon Kwan, founder of the Muwen Tang Collection and a distinguished Hong Kong architect.

BY NATALIE MARCHANT THIS YEAR, OUR GALLERY celebrates its centenary. Marchant was founded in London in 1925 by my great grandfather, Samuel Sidney Marchant. Over the past century, through four generations of the family, the gallery has grown from a small enterprise dealing in general antiques into one of the most respected names in Chinese art.

IN MAY 2024, I travelled to Tokyo to meet Kei Takahashi, Director of Kami Ya Co., Ltd, which engages in various businesses related to art and cultural properties that use paper. In explaining their business, Mr Takahashi said: “We do everything in-house, from manufacturing and selling paper raw materials and paper, to paper processing, mounting and repair, without relying on outside parties.
