Finding Your Place in ASSP
Throughout different phases of my life, there have been times when I was trying to find my place—whether in a new role, a new organization or a new season of life. Those experiences taught me a great deal about myself, the organizations I was part of and how I wanted to contribute. Finding your place within ASSP can feel much the same. We come from different industries, represent different career stages and have varying amounts of time to volunteer. Engagement is never one-size-fits-all.
OSHA Renews Its Focus on Warehousing and Distribution: What Safety Professionals Need to Know
OSHA recently issued a revised National Emphasis Program (NEP) for Warehousing and Distribution Center Operations (Directive CPL 03-00-026), confirming that warehouse safety remains a federal enforcement priority. Effective July 31, 2026, the revised NEP will remain in place for five years. It reinforces the need for long-term prevention and compliance planning. It targets selected warehousing, postal processing, courier and local delivery establishments.
SIF Convening Report Identifies Barriers and Proposed Solutions to Reduce Falls from Height and Lockout/Tagout Failures
In spring 2026, ASSP led two working sessions in Chicago and Washington, D.C. More than 95 safety professionals and industry experts participated in the convenings, which focused on preventing falls from height and lockout/tagout (LOTO) failures. Despite different participants and locations, both sessions reached the same conclusion: the prevention gap is not a lack of safety regulations, but a failure to translate complex standards into simple, visible and executable work at the point of task.

As an ASSP member for 20 years, I have learned that membership is not one-size-fits-all. My involvement has adapted to my work and life responsibilities, something I value most about our Society. There were times I was highly engaged and times I stepped back because of work or personal commitments. ASSP has always been there when I was ready to reconnect, allowing me to engage in ways that fit my circumstances. My ASSP journey began at the annual professional development conference.

ASSP Appoints Monique Parker, CSP, as New President

As I begin my term as ASSP president, I am honored by the opportunity to serve our members and help guide the future of our Society and profession. I am proud to serve as ASSP’s first Black female president and to follow two outstanding women leaders, Pam Walaski and Linda Tapp, who have helped move our organization forward. ASSP Foundation Recognizes Leaders Advancing Next Generation of Safety Professionals
