Jun 05, 2026 ASTM International’s plastics committee (D20) has approved a new standard that describes the required properties for plastic temporary ceiling barriers. Such barriers are intended for installation below automatic fire suppression sprinklers (although they could be installed elsewhere) during construction or repair work on roofs or ceilings.

The new standard focuses on mattresses used in detention facilities, as well as ships. Jun 04, 2026 ASTM International has approved a new standard to help assess the fire performance of mattresses intended for use in detention and correctional facilities, as well as transportation environments, such as ships. The new standard (F3809) was developed by ASTM’s detention and correctional facilities committee (F33).

The practice will provide guidance to prepare lab spaces for new uses. Jun 03, 2026 ASTM International’s occupational health and safety committee (E34) is developing a proposed standard that will help improve characterization and management of hazardous materials identified or generated from facility decommissioning processes. The proposed standard (WK88326) will address a decommissioning approach specifically for research laboratories that may then be applied to other types of facilities.

Jun 03, 2026 ASTM International presented its top annual award – the Award of Merit – to Kurt Thaxton for his contributions to its air quality committee(D22). The prestigious award, which includes the accompanying title of fellow, is ASTM’s highest recognition for distinguished service and outstanding participation in ASTM International committee activities.
