At The Barrier is all about the music. It was born out of a love of live music and albums. Our team has many years of combined writing experience both reviewing albums and covering concerts for different publications including Louder Than War, Powerplay, PROG Magazine, Fireworks magazine, Manchester Evening News, Folk Radio, FATEA and Record Collector. In the years that At The Barrier has existed, we have been involved with many different events including being a part of Glastonbury Festival’s panel of judges for their Emerging Talent Competition and curating playlists for festivals in the UK. We have covered major festivals up and down the country, as well as global events like Taylor Swift’s history making Eras Tour. Source

The Cases - Mr Penny: EP Review

The Cases explore love, lust and everything inbetween on the new EP, Mr Penny. The Cases are a four-piece band from Preston whose influences are obvious from the outset: The View, Blossoms, The Courteeners and The Kooks. Yet, their sound relies less on jangly guitars and delivers a sturdy British indie sound through observant song writing, guitars that drive the hooks, and some expertly-arranged song structures.

Let these folk’n’country Canadians, The Fugitives, escape into your ears for their, lucky for some, seventh set of songs. There are many who might say that Canada is now the true spiritual home of country music, or what gets that these days. Nashville seems preoccupied with razzmatazz and pop-fusion, with Californian and Texan iterations tending to recycle old glories. So hurrah for the plucky northern US neighbour and long may this remain the case.

Emerging from the depths of Italy’s death metal underbelly is The Great Observer. They’re a quartet act whose band members have cut their teeth in a raft of other metal bands. This wholly reflects in this debut album as it cuts across a swathe of genres. The cover art, by bassist Claudio Scialabba, sets the album’s grim ethos with bleak toning and nightmarish imagery.
