I am a village of Aurora resident and Wells College graduate. Like so many, I was deeply saddened by the closing of the college and deeply angry at the way it was done. The president had been sending us monthly emails about how well things were going and there did indeed seem to be a renewed sense of positive energy on campus. I had a foster son who was going to be a senior and captain of the soccer team. And my son was working at the college.

I am (and always will be) a fervent supporter of protecting Auburn's historical sites, and this is why I (a non-Catholic) have made a small pledge toward the preservation of Holy Family Church. This edifice has been serving our community since the Civil War and is a landmark in the our city's center but is currently threatened with demolition, as the diocese has stripped it of all financial assets and is rumored to have received a large offer for the property prior to the church's closing.

The Auburn YMCA-WEIU has consistently been a cornerstone of this community, but its influence reaches far beyond the four walls of our facility at 27 William St. or the shores of Camp Y-Owasco.
