AUSA Graphic Novel Honors WWI ‘Ace of Aces’ Former Capt. Edward “Eddie” Rickenbacker, an Army Air Service fighter pilot known as America’s “Ace of Aces” for his World War I aerial combat victories, is the subject of the latest graphic novel in the Association of the U.S. Army’s series on recipients of the nation’s highest award for valor.

The Army’s Holistic Health and Fitness program, which aims to help soldiers maintain their health, fitness and well-being for peak performance, is now part of the U.S. Army Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia. The Maneuver Center of Excellence assumed leadership of the program, also known as H2F, on June 1, and the H2F Academy’s transition from Fort Jackson, South Carolina, to Fort Benning, is expected to be completed by Jan. 1.

The National Guard, with its roles at home and overseas, is vital to the Total Army, said Army Vice Chief of Staff Gen. Christopher LaNeve. “We may have three compos, but we are one Army, and that Army is the foundation of the joint force,” LaNeve said Aug. 29 at the National Guard Association of the United States General Conference & Exhibition in Indianapolis. The National Guard “has been everywhere,” LaNeve said.

Lt. Gen. Johnny Davis, commanding general of U.S. Army Recruiting Command, will speak Sept. 29 as part of the Association of the U.S. Army’s Coffee Series. The event will take place at AUSA headquarters in Arlington, Virginia. The event opens at 6:30 a.m. with registration, coffee and networking. The awards will be presented in October during AUSA’s Annual Meeting and Exposition at the Walter E.

In September, the Association of the U.S. Army’s “Army Matters” podcast will highlight the recipient of AUSA’s highest award for distinguished and selfless service and an Army major who uses poetry to deal with service, loss and healing. First up is an episode featuring Frank Siller, chairman and CEO of the Tunnel to Towers Foundation. Siller founded the Tunnel to Towers Foundation in honor of his younger brother, Stephen Siller, a New York City firefighter who died on Sept. 11, 2001.

Army Surgeon General Speaks at AUSA Webinar Lt. Gen. Mary Izaguirre, the Army surgeon general, will speak Sept. 16 during an Association of the U.S. Army webinar. The presentation, part of AUSA’s Noon Report series, will focus on transforming Army Medicine for the future fight. The event begins at noon Eastern. It is free, but registration is required here. Izaguirre, who became the 46th Army surgeon general in January 2024, also commands U.S. Army Medical Command.

More than 55 years after soldiers from the Indiana National Guard’s Company D (Ranger), 151st Infantry Regiment, returned home from the Vietnam War, the unit was recognized with the Presidential Unit Citation for heroism during a yearlong deployment. In a ceremony Aug. 29 at the National Guard Association of the United States’ General Conference and Exhibition in Indianapolis, some of the surviving members of Company D, also known as the Indiana Rangers, received the long-awaited award.
