Friday 13 October 2023 An extraordinary day was had by all at Olivia's Walk for Wellness on Sunday 8 October. We are delighted to announce that there were a total of 4,055 participants including 285 virtual walkers and 189 dogs! On behalf of Austin Health and the ONJ Centre, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to everyone that was part of delivering the day including our partners, event managers, suppliers, performers and all the wonderful volunteers.

10 October 2023 In a Victorian-first, a new family-centred mental health facility for children has officially opened in Melbourne’s north on World Mental Health Day. Aptly named Booboop Narrkwarren Ngarra Jarra-Noun, which means the Family Healing Centre, the State Government funded facility will be staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week allowing up to three families to stay onsite at one time, while they receive flexible, family-centred therapy and support from specialist clinicians.

4 October 2023 A husband, a dog, a teaching career and a fit and active lifestyle were all part of Hannah’s day-to-day life until early one morning she had a seizure. It was on this day, 30 March 2023, that Hannah’s husband woke to her having a seizure and their lives changed forever. Hannah was rushed to hospital and after a CT scan and an MRI, the team at Austin Health found a lesion and confirmed a 5x6cm tumor on the right side of Hannah’s brain.

3 October 2023 A new bedside communication tool for patients and their clinical teams has begun rolling out across Austin Health. The Patient Bedside Communication Board is an important tool to enhance our patients' overall experience in hospital by supporting their communication needs. It demonstrates that we involve our patients in shared decision making and care planning, and ensure we provide information in a way that the patient can understand.

We are one year into our second Reconciliation Action Plan which outlines our continued commitment to reconciliation and articulates the steps we will take to achieve our vision of all Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander Peoples have access to culturally safe healthcare. Promisingly, the number of Indigenous patients accessing our services has risen across all areas.

Two days after having the blood test, the GP called Marnie to say the results were 'unusual' and she was sent to the emergency department. 'They thought I was having a heart attack based off the results. Then they did a chest X-ray and a heart scan, and I lit up like a Christmas tree.' The scans detected small tumours across Marnie's body, particularly in her chest and abdomen.
