Firefighters and staff from Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) took part in a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, 2 July to mark the exciting next step in the redevelopment of the brand-new fire station in Bath. Following the demolition of the existing fire station, shovels hit the ground to symbolise the beginning of delivering a modern, sustainable facility which meets the needs of a modern fire and rescue service.

Avon Fire & Rescue Service (AF&RS) will be hosting a community open morning at Temple Fire Station ahead of Bristol Pride on Saturday, 11 July, from 8.30-10.30am. Opening its doors to the local community, firefighters and staff at Temple Fire Station will be on hand to deliver fire safety advice, discuss career opportunities within the fire and rescue service and host family friendly activities to keep those of all ages entertained.

HMICFRS has closed two accelerated causes of concern and one cause of concern relating to risk information, mobilising systems, and culture. As a result of these improvements AF&RS has been returned to the default Scan phase of monitoring after more than two years in the enhanced Engage stage. With hot and dry weather forecast across the region, Avon Fire & Rescue Service is asking the public to take extra care when spending time outdoors. These conditions increase the likelihood of incidents involving open land, water and outdoor spaces, and small actions can have serious consequences. We are encouraging everyone to play their part in helping to keep our communities safe.

Firefighter Lee Ralph, from Kingswood Red Watch, has been awarded the British Empire Medal (BEM) in the King’s Birthday Honours, recognising his outstanding contribution to mental health, wellbeing and resilience across the fire and rescue community. This reflects years of dedicated work leading a cultural shift in how mental health is understood, supported and prioritised within the fire service.

Across the country, work is underway to fix buildings with unsafe cladding following the Grenfell Tower fire. Nationally, most of the highest risk buildings have already started or completed repairs. The government has set new deadlines to make sure all remaining unsafe buildings are fixed as quickly as possible.
