Boston College’s newest weapon has received another preseason accolade. On Tuesday, transfer Evan Dickens was named to the Doak Walker Award watch list for the 2026 season. This award has been given annually to the top running back in college football since 1990, when Washington’s Greg Lewis became the inaugural winner. Other winners include Eddie George, LaDanian Tomlinson, Reggie Bush, Derrick Henry, Bijan Robinson, and last year’s winner Jeremyiah Love.

Boston College will face a new-look Blue Devils team this season. Halloween falls on a Saturday this year and that means Boston College will be in action. Following a bye week, next up for the Eagles is a home game against Pitt. Pitt enters 2026 as one of the ACC’s real dark horses. They have the pieces in place to contend for 8+ wins, but facing some turnover, and a defensive-staff reset. The Panthers were projected ninth in the ACC media poll, but have about the fifth best odds to win the conference outright.

The Boston College Eagles welcome the Virginia Tech Hokies in their third straight home game. The Hokies have had their number of late, as they’ve beaten the BC in four of the last five contests.

Zay Flowers spent four years dominating the ACC for Boston College and has been doing the same at the next level. On Tuesday, the Baltimore Ravens inked Flowers to a four-year extension worth $140 million with $108 guaranteed. This contract has Flowers behind only Jaxon Smith-Njigba ($42.15 million) and Drake London ($35 million) in terms of annual salary. The 25-year-old receiver was under control through 2027 after the Ravens exercised his fifth-year option.

Boston College has been busy on the recruiting front to prepare for the winter. In recent weeks, the Eagles have received good news on some top targets over the next two years. It began with four-star guard Antonio Pemberton. On Wednesday, Pemberton narrowed his list down to eight teams. There will be more cutdowns in the future but for now, Boston College remains in the mix. The Eagles were featured on the list with UCLA, Creighton, Marquette, Tennessee, Ohio State, Kansas, and Michigan.

The Eagles will take on SMU in an important October matchup. The schedule continues into October with Boston College hitting the road to go South and take on SMU in Week 5. There are many head coaches that will be put under a microscope this fall. The 2026 season will be very telling for many in the Power Four ranks. Coming off a two-win season, it is not surprising to hear Bill O’Brien in conversations surrounding coaches on the hot seat. In a recent list put together by Sports Illustrated, O’Brien was featured on a top five list on which coaches are on the hottest seat entering the season.

Boston College’s home opener will be against Rutgers. The game will feature as Red Bandana Game and will actually be played on the 25th anniversary of 9/11 and Welles Crowther’s passing. The game will be nationally televised on ESPN2. Last season’s starting quarterback Dylan Lonergan will also make his return with his new team. He started the 2025 season with such promise, but quickly faltered. He’s still in a bit of quarterback competition, but will hope his third stop will see more success.

The Eagles will open the season against Cincinnati. Boston College is looking to improve off a two-win campaign in 2025.
