Canadian cattle markets continued to show strength in late May, supported by firm fed cattle prices, steady boxed beef values and year-over-year gains across several feeder cattle categories. For the week ending May 23, Canadian cattle slaughter was reported at 48,526 head. That was lower than the previous week’s 51,849 head, but above the same week last year, when slaughter totaled 44,645 head. Western Canada accounted for most of the weekly volume, with 38,444 head processed.
