It’s a question that comes up during a conversation with the artist Kasia Fudakowski about the ways in which audiences relate to her works. The notion of a game suggests winners and losers, which sounds more than a bit like the art world I know. But there is a subtle difference between a “game” and “play”—in the latter case, it’s not so clear cut who wins or loses, or if such an outcome is the point.

By nature, this biennial is nomadic and follows its own rules: the Kyiv Biennial is neither hosted in Kyiv, nor truly a biennial due to its annual appearance, but the fact that it still reemerges time and time again in different European cities is a feat, given the circumstances.

Biennale Gherdëina 10: An Interview with Samuel Leuenberger
