As always, you can meet the Blender team at SIGGRAPH. Here’s an overview of what you can expect. SIGGRAPH is from Sunday, July 19 until Thursday, July 23 this year. As always, there will be a community booth, several ‘Birds of a Feather’ community gatherings and a talk of Blender’s support of OpenPBR. See the full program here.

Satendra Saraswat created a simple low-poly rock generator using Blender 5.1 geometry nodes. It has three types of rock setup. The original Blender file is freely available to download. VIDEO

I have a LONG history with Blender - I wrote some of the earliest Blender tutorials, worked for Not a Number and helped run the crowdfunding campaign that open sourced Blender (the first one on the internet!). The Blender Studio is now focusing (again) on developing a feature-length movie, and they need to reach 7,000 Blender Studio subscribers to finance it. Co-directors Hjalti Hjálmarsson and Rik Schutte set the scene of OVERGROWN in a post-human robo-apocalyptic world reclaimed by nature. As the unlikely family duo [editor’s note: unclear what this duo is, but we’ll see] survives in the brave new world, their adventure unfolds into a fast-paced river of hardship, wonder, and personal transformation.

Monitor, preview, and control Blender renders from a phone or browser, from anywhere. A Blender add-on plus Android / web companion apps. Everything is handled on the server, so there’s no port forwarding, no VPN, and no static IP. Pair by scanning a code; everything is end-to-end encrypted. Render Control is purpose-built for one problem, where a long render holds your PC hostage and you babysit it.

Blender 5.2 LTS is about to drop and it contains a LOT of updates! The full list of changes is available here, but let’s zoom in on the changes in the physics: new cloth and hair options, effectors (like colliders and force) and the big one: the XPBD Solver that drives the new cloth and hair dynamics, but that’s also accessible directly for more direct use.
