B’nai B’rith International Honorary CEO and Senior Advisor Daniel S. Mariaschin was presented with the Arthur Teich Award for Distinguished Alumni Achievement during Alpha Epsilon Pi’s International Convention in Phoenix on July 31. Mariaschin, who served as B’nai B’rith’s CEO for 27 years before retiring from the role on June 30, was recognized for a lifetime of distinguished leadership and service.

B’nai B’rith International unequivocally condemns yesterday’s vile stabbing attack near a synagogue in New York City, which came just days after Mayor Zohran Mamdani released a divisive video vilifying the State of Israel and its supporters.

The History of Wooden Synagogues The aesthetics and the spirit of Europe’s long-vanished wooden synagogues constructed in the villages and settlements of Eastern Europe from the 17th to the early 20th centuries, continue to inspire and serve as catalysts for cultural innovation in the present day. In April 2025, I published a blog that traced the history of these buildings, and described artworks that the synagogues had inspired.

On July 18, Argentina will mark the 32nd anniversary of the brutal terrorist bombing of the AMIA Jewish community center in Buenos Aires. Eighty-five innocent people were murdered, hundreds more were injured, and an entire nation was left with a wound that remains open to this day. Over the years, I have written many articles about the AMIA bombing. Yet this one may be the most meaningful.

The B’nai B’rith World Center-Jerusalem and the Committee to Recognize the Heroism of Jewish Rescuers during the Holocaust (JRJ Committee) decided last week to present their joint Jewish Rescuers Citation to six additional Jewish heroes who endangered their lives to rescue fellow Jews during and immediately following the Holocaust.

Recently my family moved from a two-bedroom condo to a three-bedroom, three-story townhouse. Moving is one of my least favorite activities as there is so much to do, and the work never seems done. My wife and I went through our belongings before the move and ruthlessly tossed things away. If we couldn’t justify why we owned it, it went in the trash.
