There are certain people who come into your life and make everything better without ever asking for credit. That’s Lynette. Our working arrangement didn’t come from a headhunter or a job site. It started at a neighborhood party, and it just clicked. The role has morphed several times and continues to evolve as life changes. (She adds more to it than she takes away.) If I were searching for someone to fill this position, no one would answer my ad.
The Donation Cheat Sheet
I love a good closet clean out. I love the feeling of an organized shelf. I even love a big donation pile. But I don’t love my stuff ending up in landfills. Books, old electronics, unopened beauty products, sneakers and eyeglasses — so many of the things we no longer need can be donated, recycled or repurposed. You just need to know where to send them. So I asked my organizer- Jill Fox from In The Fold to help me organize a list. Consider this your cheat sheet.
The Skin Series with Dr. Leena Ramani
My best advice for hair loss is simple: start treatment early - time is hair! Hair follicles miniaturize gradually, so if you notice increased shedding, a thinning hairline, or your ponytail feeling smaller, you’re usually not imagining it. The earlier we intervene, the more hair we can preserve, and fortunately we now have more effective options than ever before.
The Prettiest Makeup is the Simplest
There’s something about Jenna’s smile that I just love, but when we made her up, she just transformed from adorable to chic and sophisticated. We kept her makeup really simple and glowy, but added sophistication with eyeliner and a strong, filled-in brow. This is how we got the look: We started with the SPF (Untinted), followed by What The Foundation in Porcelain all over the face. We then used Face Powder in Untinted to take away any extra shine and help keep her makeup in place.
Some People Search for the Perfect Lipstick
My Obsession is for the Perfect Jeans I’ll never give up my quest for the perfect jeans. Somewhere along the way, denim started being designed for someone taller, longer, and apparently living in a completely different body than mine. The knees never land where my knees actually are, the hems have their own plans, and “perfect fit” usually means “budget for alterations.” Here’s my next plan: I never thought about doing this with the clothes I actually wear everyday.
Sofwave: My Skin's New Business Partner
This isn’t my first time with Sofwave, and honestly, it probably won’t be my last. I keep coming back because I love them both. There’s something about the way my skin looks afterwards that makes me forget all the hesitation I had the first time around. I’ve written about Sofwave before. You can read it here: It does not disappoint. Does it hurt? Not so much (Again, I was numbed and a little calmed down). Do I see results? Absolutely.
My Met Gala Memories
I’ve attended two past Met Galas and there is only one way to describe the experience: it is one crazy night that is a ton of fun, a lot of stress, a total adrenaline rush, and a Where’s Waldo of bold faces. The stress, for me, comes from deciding what to wear. My usual black pants and Ted Muehling pearl earrings definitely don’t make the cut. Picking a look always starts with friends, stylists, and a few clothing pulls from stores.
Secrets From A Beauty Founder
If I could only use one makeup product, it would be blush. Let’s not forget I wear glasses, so I can kind of hide any under-eye darkness…and as a brunette, I already have some natural definition. Most nights when I’m running out the door late for dinner, I swipe blush on my cheeks, nose, forehead, lips and sometimes even my eyelids and I’m good to go. There’s something about a pop of pink on brunettes that just makes you stand out and look instantly pretty.
On the Eve of My 69th Birthday...
As someone who spends an enormous amount of time in front of a camera- whether in professional lighting or on an iPhone- I can’t help but share that it’s not always easy. I’ve said it before, but HDTV was created by a bunch of bros for football, so you can see every catch, every play, and every ball. Somehow, everyone thought it was a good idea to shoot everything in HD… and let me tell you, lighting is everything.
Shoes That Love Your Feet Back
My husband and I recently attended a black-tie wedding in New York City, just about 12 miles from our home. Steven really wanted to make a night of it and stay at a hotel. He finally convinced me (not easy…I love being home), and I’m so glad he did. The hotel was amazing and I highly recommend it. Of course, staying overnight meant I had to think beyond just my wedding look and plan for the next morning too, especially knowing we’d be back with the kids. I’ve talked about my “wedding uniform” before.
