Friday’s data for August 2026 marked 12 months since the release of labor data in August 2025, and over that span Texas added 159,400 jobs. (KTXL) — Officials are offering $147,000 to anyone who can help catch what appears to be a serial tree poisoner responsible for 28 damaged pines at a Lake Tahoe beach in Nevada. The tree poisonings have stumped investigators since 2022, when staff from the Incline Village General Improvement District found six poisoned trees at Burnt Cedar Beach. Staff found six more in 2024, the district said in a news release.

AUSTIN (KXAN) — As we quickly approach the start of early voting in Texas, a new poll released by Nexstar Media and Emerson College showed that both the Texas Governor’s race and the Texas Senate race are heating up. The poll found that the Texas Senate race between Democrat James Talarico and Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton is in a deadlock. The poll showed 47% of state voters supported Talarico, while 46% were for Paxton.

EL PASO, Texas (Border Report) — U.S. Border Patrol agents rescued four migrants from a portable water tank in what one official called a “dangerous and barbaric” smuggling scheme. Border agents from the Del Rio Sector’s Eagle Pass Station encountered a pickup with the water tank in the bed on Sept. 14 in Eagle Pass, Texas. Agents inspected the truck, a 2007 Ford F-150, and found four individuals inside the tank.

WASHINGTON (AP) — The White House said Thursday that it was withdrawing its nomination of Lance Schroyer, a former Oklahoma state trooper, to lead U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, ensuring that an agency at the forefront of President Donald Trump’s domestic agenda will remain without a Senate-confirmed leader for at least a while longer. Schroyer, who has little experience in immigration, is close to Homeland Security Secretary Markwayne Mullin, a former U.S. senator from Oklahoma.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — An immigration officer pleaded not guilty Friday to federal charges that he lied to the FBI about being attacked before he shot and wounded a Venezuelan man during the immigration crackdown in Minneapolis early this year. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer Christian Castro appeared before a U.S. magistrate judge after prosecutors indicted him this month on six federal counts of making false statements about the Jan. 14 shooting of Julio Cesar Sosa-Celis.
