The All-Star break and its many festivities have passed but the Boston Red Sox likely wish it never came. Boston was one of the hottest teams in MLB leading up to the break, winning 14 of their last 16 games and going on a nine-game streak leading up to the break. Momentum has evaded the 2026 Red Sox until recently. They hadn't won more than three games in a row all season until they swept the New York Yankees in a four-game series at Fenway Park.

The second half hasn't officially started, yet the Boston Red Sox are stocking up on roster reserves for a playoff push. On July 14, they signed former Detroit Tigers outfielder/designated hitter Jahmai Jones, then reunited with another recent Tiger later that same day. Tommy Kahnle has signed with the Red Sox organization again, according to Tommy Cassell of the Worcester Telegram & Gazette. The veteran has signed another minor league deal, as he did when he first joined the Red Sox in March.

The American League put on an historic show in the 2026 All-Star Game, shutting out the National League for the first time since 2013 and holding it to just three hits. AL manager John Schneider of the Toronto Blue Jays used 11 of the best pitchers the league has to offer to get the job done. Dylan Cease struck out the side in his frame and Michael Wacha, Joe Ryan and Cade Smith finished the game with two apiece. The NL fanned a staggering 15 times en route to its loss.

The Boston Red Sox spent the week leading up to the All-Star break wondering if Willson Contreras would be able to participate in the events for a few reasons. One was his impending suspension, which had no impact on his ability to partake in the Home Run Derby and All-Star Game. The other is the contusion on his left foot. Thankfully, common sense has prevailed, as some injuries paved the way for the 25-year-old to make his Midsummer Classic debut this year. His growth at the plate has been the major story of his 2026 season, as he's posting highwater marks in nearly every notable category.

Willson Contreras has been loving his role as one of the three All-Star Game representatives for the Boston Red Sox. He took up the villain role in the Home Run Derby as he encouraged the boos that rained down on him from Philadelphia Phillies fans in the audience. Contreras' five-game suspension is carrying through the All-Star break, likely amplifying the villain narrative. Contreras also made sure fans knew how much he loves representing the Red Sox.

The Boston Red Sox went on a tear before the All-Star break — as they've done in many recent seasons — to inch closer to playoff contention as the trade deadline looms. On July 14, during the break, Boston added to its roster to brace for a tough run to the trade deadline. The Red Sox have traded for outfielder/designated hitter Jahmai Jones from the Detroit Tigers for a Player To Be Named Later, first reported by Alex Speier of The Boston Globe.

After a wild Home Run Derby that included a standout performance from Willson Contreras, the All-Star Game is finally here. The Boston Red Sox have three representatives: Contreras, Aroldis Chapman and Ceddanne Rafaela. Ranger Suarez would've participated if he were healthy and Sonny Gray should've taken his place, but Sox fans will take what they can get.

The Boston Red Sox front office has been under fire for plenty of reasons during the Craig Breslow era, but ... it could always be worse.
