Leading the performance was ScreenX, which generated $31.84 million at the domestic box office, a 55.1% increase over the first half of 2025, reflecting growing audience interest in the format’s signature 270-degree panoramic viewing experience. Strong performance was also reflected across CJ 4DPlex’s premium formats.

The renewal marks 16 years of continuous partnership between the two companies. HOYTS operates 511 screens across 61 locations in Australia and New Zealand, making it one of the largest cinema circuits in the region.

The Top 3 movies being family-oriented certainly cannibalized the grosses for newcomer Moana, but overall led to decent numbers above $100M for theaters, with a slight week-over-week uptick. Year-over-year is a different story, falling far behind 2025 when Superman dominated the box office as the kind of well-received summer tentpole that has been few-and-far-between in 2026.
