This impressive dramatisation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel A Single Man immerses us in California in the early 1960s and we enter a more closeted world where a university professor can’t tell his students he’s gay.
The P Word at the Bush Theatre extended to 29 Oct: Watch new interview with writer Waleed Akhtar
The Bush Theatre has announced that due to popular demand their hit production of The P Word has been extended to Saturday 29th October. Also today a video interview with author and actor Waleed Akhtar talking about the play, with cultural producer Ryan Lanji, has been released. Audiences and critics have acclaimed the play which tells the story of Zafar, played by Esh Alladi, who flees homophobic persecution in Pakistan to seek asylum in the UK.
Theo Fraser Steele on playing George in Christopher Isherwood’s ‘A Single Man’
A new dramatisation of Christopher Isherwood’s novel A Single Man is coming to the Park Theatre this month and Theo Fraser Steele is playing college professor George, the grief-stricken lead character, in this powerful but sexy gay story set in California in 1982. George is grieving the death of his long-term partner Jim and as a middle-aged gay Englishman living in the Los Angeles suburbs, he is an outsider in every way – but then one day changes everything.
Obituary: Stephen Vowles 1958 - 2022
We are deeply sorry to report that Stephen Vowles, the Boyz advertising sales manager and our Boyz theatre critic, passed away yesterday at home after a long battle with cancer. Stephen’s family was with him at his bedside. Stephen had worked for Boyz selling advertising and writing theatre, film and book reviews for over eight years. Prior to joining Boyz, Stephen ran his own publication called Gay About Town for a year. He was also the advertising sales manager for QX magazine for over a decade.
