Some people spend years figuring out what they want to do with their lives. For senior Rue Davis, that path became clear at 14. Diagnosed with T-cell non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma, a rare blood cancer, Davis underwent more than two years of intensive chemotherapy. Throughout her treatment, a child life specialist helped her navigate the challenges of cancer with compassion, support, and encouragement. “It’s because of my diagnosis that I was introduced to child life science,” Davis said.

Danny Soto knows physical therapy is about more than recovery exercises and rehabilitation plans. For many patients, especially those who don’t speak English, it’s about finally feeling understood. (Danny and Chief Brian Joschko at graduation on May 16.) Years of injuries from running cross-country and track in high school and community college first introduced Soto to the field. As he worked through rehab himself, he began paying close attention to the physical therapists around him.

She was inspired by the strong women who surrounded her growing up—her mother, grandmother, and aunts—and the perspectives they shared on the subject. Through them, she learned beauty is more about grace, confidence, and humility than it is about appearance alone. Through determination and commitment, Parker graduated high school a year early.

The exhibition will be open from Feb. 5 through March 19, 2027 at multiple venues throughout Peoria, including Bradley University’s Heuser Art Gallery and Hartmann Center Gallery, as well as the Peoria Art Guild and the Peoria Riverfront Museum.

Her biomed classes were overwhelmingly difficult, to the point that Nduka decided to take a leave of absence. It was the right choice. Still determined to discover her true calling, Nduka returned home and reconnected with the things that matter most to her—art, crocheting, and spending time with her brother, who has autism.
