Swale towns, villages and community gardens have been recognised for their outstanding horticulture, environment and community work in this year’s south and south east in bloom competition. A project that involves keeping a close eye on the health of care home residents has been extended for a year – after a trial showed impressive results. The Docobo telehealth project was initially piloted for six months in two care homes in Maidstone, Kent. In the first three months, it resulted in a 32 per cent reduction in hospital admissions, a 25 per cent reduction in 999 calls, a 67 per cent reduction in 111 calls and a 44 per cent reduction in all GP contact.

John and Barry started the celebrations on the Breakfast show where they gave away a Weekend Breakfast for two at the Klondyke Cafe at the Lakes, Halfway. Pete in Sheerness won this prize. Pete and Pat on the Mid Morning show kept giving away prizes over the course of their 4 hours on air.

“We are doing our bit to ensure local businesses are complying with the new restrictions. Our compliance team carried out more than 500 checks last weekend, on top of the 116 businesses visited before lockdown began. As expected, lots of businesses were closed, with mostly food establishments offering a takeaway service remaining open.” “Most of the businesses we visited were complying with the guidelines and we haven’t had to issue any fines yet.

One of the best-loved memorials in Kent is now just as evocative after dark, thanks to support from a generous donor. The National Memorial to the Few, the men of the Royal Air Force who fought and won the Battle of Britain in 1940, is now lit by floodlights at dusk. The result is an atmospheric tribute to the fewer than 3,000 men who took to the skies to see off the Luftwaffe and put a stop to Hitler’s invasion plans.

People living in temporary accommodation who have previously slept rough will soon be able to move into more permanent housing thanks to more than £380,000 from the government’s Next Steps Accommodation Fund. The fund has been set up to help those who were placed in temporary accommodation as part of the government’s Everyone In initiative, which saw thousands of people sleeping rough across the country brought in off the streets during the outbreak of the Covid pandemic.
