British Transport Police (BTP) were called at 3.18pm on Saturday to reports that a train had struck a van at a level crossing in Burscough, about 15 miles northeast of Liverpool. A man was pronounced dead at the scene, the force said, while two train passengers received treatment for minor injuries. One person was in the van. Paramedics and the fire service also attended the incident. "Inquiries are ongoing to establish the full circumstances of what happened," BTP said in a statement.
