Two days after the Buffalo Bills suffered yet another heartbreaking playoff loss to the hands of Bo Nix and the Denver Broncos, the Bills sent shockwaves through the league when they fired head coach Sean McDermott. After nine seasons, making the playoffs eight times, winning the AFC East five consecutive times, and making it to the conference championship twice, McDermott’s time ran out in Orchard Park.

Training camp is upon us, and the Buffalo Bills have a lot hanging over their heads. From queries about scheme and usage to thoughts about who plays what role on the team, there are doubts and concerns galore after a tumultuous offseason. Every NFL fan knows the greatness that Josh Allen has and what he means to the Buffalo Bills. He is one of those overall players that does way more great than bad, and he also is beloved by the entire community of Western New York which is just an added bonus. What made Josh Allen quickly rise as one of the best quarterbacks in the NFL was the Bills getting Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings.

When you look back on the draft classes for the Buffalo Bills under Brandon Beane, there have been some solid hits, and of course some bad misses as well. One thing that is confusing is how the Bills haven’t brought in a ton of great talent early in the first round. The only exception is Josh Allen back in 2018. Other than Allen, the Bills tend to miss on their early first round picks. However, Beane and his staff have done a great job at selecting players in the later rounds especially on Day 3.

If there is one position that the Buffalo Bills have faced a ton of criticism from the last two season, it’s clearly wide receiver. While not every team has a great receiving core, the Bills have the best quarterback in the league with Josh Allen, so not having a great wide receiver room has hurt the offense. Trading for DJ Moore was as great first step to improving the room, but the Bills still needed to bring in extra help.

When the Buffalo Bills take the field for Week 1 of the 2026 season, they will be one of the ten teams that will be led by a new head coach. Their situation, however, is unique. Joe Brady is a first-time head coach and he takes over a win-now team that has been knocking on the Super Bowl door for many years now. At the same time, it’s not like Brady is new to Buffalo.

Bringing in Bradley Chubb in free agency was the biggest move that the Buffalo Bills made that didn’t require a trade. While the acquisition of DJ Moore via trade with the Chicago Bears was Buffalo’s biggest roster move, the signing of Chubb was the Bills’ biggest free agency splash. Chubb had been in the AFC East since 2022, when he was traded to the Miami Dolphins from the Denver Broncos, so he was used to play against the Bills.

Every summer right before training camp, preseason, and then the regular season, there is always hope (for most teams atleast) going into the new season. Unless you are a team like the Cardinals, Dolphins, Jets, or Browns, there is a reason to be hopeful for each team. The Buffalo Bills are one of the league’s best teams going into 2026, as expected. However, they will look different now that Sean McDermott is no longer leading the team.

With the change at offensive coordinator to Pete Carmichael, Jr., head coach Joe Brady will still be calling plays, intending to provide assurance to Bills Mafia of stability in the team's direction in 2026. After a period with former offensive coordinators Brian Daboll and Ken Dorsey, who were very pass-happy, the Bills turned to Brady. They adopted a ground-and-pound approach, with James Cook winning the rushing title in 2025. This year's squad has talented players in the wide receiver room.
