Kentucky basketball has generated plenty of optimism under Mark Pope. The time has arrived for the Wildcats to transform it into something more meaningful. Dick Vitale included Kentucky in his “Dazzling Dozen” storylines for the 2026-27 college basketball season, arguing that the program has moved beyond the point where moral victories should be celebrated, according to A Sea of Blue. Vitale’s assessment reflects the pressure that follows every Kentucky coach.

Kentucky will welcome the nation’s No. 1 recruit to Lexington during one of the biggest weekends on its basketball calendar. Five-star forward CJ Rosser has scheduled an official visit to Kentucky for Oct. 1 and 2 during Big Blue Madness, according to A Sea of Blue. The 6-foot-10 prospect has narrowed his recruitment to Kentucky, North Carolina, Louisville, Arkansas, Miami, NC State and USC.

Adan Diggs has eliminated most of the country from his recruitment. Unfortunately for the seven programs still chasing him, the competition has only become more difficult. The five-star guard revealed a final group consisting of Arizona, Arkansas, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina and USC, according to Arizona Desert Swarm. Diggs is ranked No. 6 nationally and No. 1 among shooting guards in the 247Sports Composite. The 6-foot-4 standout plans to begin his official visits with Arizona on Sept.

UConn’s 2027 recruiting class only has one player, but Dan Hurley could not have asked for a much better opening statement. Five-star combo guard NaVorro Bowman Jr. committed to the Huskies after taking his first official visit to Storrs, first reported by The UConn Blog. NaVorro Bowman Jr. has committed to UConn 🏀 Bowman is a five-star point guard in the 2027 class and is the son of former All-Pro linebacker NaVorro Bowman.

March Madness officially has a new leader behind the scenes. The NCAA announced Wednesday that Mike Hill has been named its vice president of men’s basketball. Hill replaces JoAn Scott, who retired after working for the NCAA since 2013. Hill’s job will extend well beyond overseeing the presentation of the NCAA Tournament. He will have a significant role in the selection, seeding and bracketing process that produces debate across the sport every March.

Duke’s complete 2026-27 schedule is official, and Jon Scheyer certainly did not ask for an easy road back to March. The Blue Devils will encounter national brands, hostile road environments, neutral-site showcases and potential NCAA Tournament previews throughout the season. Even Duke’s preseason includes an exhibition at Kansas and a home matchup against Tennessee. Once the games begin to count, the difficulty rises quickly.

Houston basketball just enjoyed the type of recruiting weekend that can shape a program for years. Kelvin Sampson and his staff landed commitments from point guard Darrell Davis and forward Beau Daniels on consecutive days. Both prospects were visiting Houston during the weekend, and both left ready to become Cougars. The two commitments give Houston three players in its 2027 class.

Stefan Vaaks does not sound like a player questioning his decision to leave Providence. The new Illinois guard made his feelings unmistakably clear when the subject of his former school came up during a recent public appearance. “Man, I don’t regret it,” Vaaks said, according to Zagsblog. It was a short answer, but it immediately generated attention around a player expected to have an enormous role for the Fighting Illini.

Alabama basketball did not have to wait long for its biggest recruiting weekend of September to produce a major result. Chase Lumpkin, a top-30 guard in the 2027 class, committed to the Crimson Tide after visiting Tuscaloosa for Alabama’s football season opener. The 6-foot-5 prospect selected Alabama from a long list of suitors that included Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Tennessee, UConn, USC and Villanova. Lumpkin is ranked No. 25 overall in the 2027 class by 247Sports.
