How TRIO SSS Supported My Return to College at 51
There comes a moment in life when the voice inside you says, “It’s your turn now.” For me, that moment arrived at 51 years old. After decades of caring for aging parents, navigating the grief of becoming a widow in 2007, and raising two sons who are now completing their master’s degrees, I found myself standing in a quiet house with two cats and a question: “Now what?” I was born in Guatemala, where education, especially higher education, is not always accessible.

What happened CU is transitioning from its current college structure to a six-college model beginning in Fall 2026. Zeigler College of Business loses accreditation
CU Bloomsburg’s Zeigler College of Business is currently not accredited under the AACSB. Students in the business college who graduate this spring will not graduate with an accredited degree. The student response “I think it’s kind of a disappointment,” says Stefano Albarracin, a junior accounting student. Albarracin is a transfer student from Northampton Community College. He explains that when he was looking at schools to transfer to, Bloomsburg originally wasn’t one of his first choices.
Students fear major changes undergoing in the music department
The music department will be making major changes within the next academic year. This includes restrictions on private music lessons, and a shuffle in courses as well as faculty. There won’t be as many part-time faculty on the music department staff, this will lead to the following: Non-music majors and minors will not be able to take private music lessons. Secondary private music lessons are not likely to be offered. Course offerings will rotate per semester.
The Local Current: Bloom Nutrition
Photo by Eric Wood Walking into Bloom Nutrition felt like I had just entered a beach town getaway, compared to the mountains in Bloomsburg. Next to the counter, the wall is lined with four colorful whiteboards detailing different drinks and acai bowls they offer. Blenders hummed in the background, and owner Emily Clayton was preparing a protein smoothie. Many fast food restaurants and takeout places tend to dominate the Bloomsburg area. Clayton wanted to bring something new to the town.
Huskies in Heat: Expanding the Conversation on Sexual Assault Awareness
April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month. Campuses across the country unite to raise awareness, support survivors, and challenge harmful cultural norms. Though these conversations are vital, they often focus on a narrow narrative. This narrative overlooks groups of survivors whose experiences are underrepresented. To truly address sexual violence, we must broaden the conversation. It must include male survivors and members of the LGBTQ community.
The Local Current: Bloomsburg Pickle Barrel
Photo by Bri Raymond Not every business starts with a detailed five-year plan. Sometimes, it begins with a simple thought: people really like pickles. That’s exactly how the Bloomsburg Pickle Barrell came to be. Opened in February, the shop is one of downtown’s newest small businesses, but its success depends heavily on the presence of college students. To attract that audience, Tregaskis offers a 15% student discount. However, there are regular customers that frequent the shop.
Riding for the Rush: An Interview with Kyra Kauffman
Kyra Kauffman has trained every week since age 8 for a 15 second event. Kauffman is not a typical collegiate athlete; she has been doing rodeo and barrel racing for over 10 years. Even in her own family of adrenaline junkies, Kauffman strayed from the herd after watching the National Finals Rodeo on television as a little girl. “My mom had horses before me. She did really prim and proper stuff like showing. She tried getting me into that and I hated it.
