It is our belief to write each of our pieces without bias or to slant readers towards a particular view. We strive to write the information and let the reader take away what they choose. This method of writing is reminiscent of the Walter Cronkite era of reporting and we strive to deliver our content in the same manner.
The Calhoun County Journal reporters are currently all volunteers who are community conscious and want to help get information out to the residents of Calhoun County. Anniston Museums and Gardens to Host Wildlife Programs July 25
ANNISTON, AL — The Anniston Museums and Gardens will host two wildlife-themed programs on Saturday, July 25, offering visitors opportunities to learn about native animals through educational presentations and hands-on activities. The first event, Saturday Alive!, begins at 1 p.m. at the museum on Museum Drive in Anniston. The monthly program features a different wildlife topic each session and introduces attendees to several of the museum’s animal ambassadors.
Governor Ivey Announces $3.6 Million in Rebuild Alabama Grants for 11 Local Road Projects
MONTGOMERY, AL — Governor Kay Ivey announced Thursday that more than $3.6 million in state funding has been awarded for 11 transportation improvement projects across Alabama through the second round of the Alabama Department of Transportation’s (ALDOT) Rebuild Alabama Annual Grant Program. The awards provide $3,648,487.44 in state funding and leverage $1,547,828.41 in local matching funds, bringing the total investment for the projects to more than $5.19 million.
Two Women Safely Rescued After Canoe Overturns on Tallapoosa River in Cleburne County
CLEBURNE COUNTY, AL — Two women were safely rescued after becoming stranded on the Tallapoosa River on July 15, following a canoe accident that prompted a multi-agency search and rescue operation. According to the Cleburne County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the area of County Road 49 near County Road 72 after receiving a report that two women had become lost while floating the river. During the trip, the canoe carrying the two women overturned, leaving both stranded.
