The Minnesota Timberwolves are rolling the dice after trading for LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets earlier in the offseason. This could be a long-term investment that ultimately ends in a championship for the Twin Cities. Bleacher Report contributor Andy Bailey predicted who he believed would be the top 30 players in the league by 2030. The Wolves were the only team with multiple players in the top 10, with Ball clocked in at No. 10, while Edwards landed at No. 5.

After a previous one game week due to the Commissioner’s Cup final, the Minnesota Lynx were back to regularly scheduled programming. It looked like it would be predictable week, as Minnesota matched up against the league-worst Connecticut Sun twice followed by a rematch against the Commissioner Cup winning New York Liberty, but what unfolded wasn’t so.

Heading into the summer, just about every Timberwolves fan had their own dream offseason mapped out. Some wanted Tim Connelly to swing for the fences one more time and somehow pry Giannis Antetokounmpo loose if Milwaukee finally decided to tear things down. Others talked themselves into buying low on former superstars whose value had cratered. Zion Williamson was one of those names that kept resurfacing. While Ja Morant found his way into plenty of hypothetical trade machines.

On a blisteringly hot Saturday night in Las Vegas, the Minnesota Timberwolves took on the Denver Nuggets for their second game of 2026 Summer League. The Wolves were a bit shorthanded in this one. Joan Beringer did not play in the game as he was out due to back tightness. Trey Kaufmann-Renn also left the game in the first half with what the Wolves called a mouth contusion and did not return.

No, it didn’t carry the emotional weight of Game 4 against San Antonio, when Anthony Edwards dragged Minnesota back from the brink to even that second-round series.

LeBron James remains a free agent, and the Minnesota Timberwolves still appear like one of the finalists in his sweepstakes. The Wolves’ ability to contend over the last couple of seasons, with Anthony Edwards leading the charge, could be enough to woo LeBron in free agency. Minnesota has been busy this offseason, acquiring point guard LaMelo Ball from the Charlotte Hornets. ESPN insider Brian Windhorst wonders if that deal will hurt Minnesota’s chances at signing LeBron in free agency.

Welcome back to basketball, folks! While Los Angeles Lakers and Sacramento Kings fans got the California Classic, and a bunch of different teams got the Salt Lake City Summer League, the Minnesota Timberwolves kicked off their season — Summer League or otherwise — with a game against the New Orleans Pelicans, who have not won a Summer League game since 2023. That did not change today.
