‘Summer Starlight’ Gala Benefits Cape Rep Theatre
On Aug. 9 at 6:30 p.m., Cape Rep Theatre will be hosting Summer Starlight 2026. The event, which will take place on the patio and in the barn on Cape Rep’s campus in Brewster, supports all of the theater’s operations, from their productions to educational programming, and artistic development. The evening will feature a pre-show party with hors d’oeuvres and an oyster bar, a live auction, and even a special appearance.

Bernard F. (Bernie) Powers of Yarmouth Port, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on July 30, 2026 surrounded by his loving family. Bernie was born in Worcester, Massachusetts to Alice (nee Barry) and Elliot Powers where he lived with his parents and his three late brothers, Richard, Robert and William Powers. Bernie loved his New England Sports teams, he especially loved watching the Boston Red Sox. He very much enjoyed spending time with his family, as well as reading the daily papers.

She leaves behind a lifetime of love, kindness, creativity, and unwavering devotion to her family, friends, students, and community. Janet was born in Barnstable, Massachusetts, on January 24, 1945, to Rodney Eldridge and Edwiga (Spakowski) Eldridge.

Born in Hershey, Pennsylvania, in 1930 to Florence Feezer Stahl and Jay Lorenzo Stahl Jr., Jay's early life was closely intertwined with the legacy of Hershey Chocolate.
Jeannette Louth
Jeannette Louth, a resident of West Harwich, died at home on July 15, 2026 at the age of 101 years. She was cared for by her niece, Jennie Atkins, for her last 7 years. Jeannette was the wife of William Louth who died in 2006. She taught Spanish for 35 years at Staples High School, Westport, CT and was always active in her church. Preceded in death by her sister Emily, and two brothers, Donald and Harold, and her cousin, Calvin Eldridge of Harwich, MA.
Peter Schock Jr.
It is with great sadness that we share the passing of Peter Schock Jr. on July 28, 2026. He passed peacefully with his wife Caroline and trusted medical providers at his side, after fighting significant health challenges. Beloved husband, son, brother, uncle, and friend, Pete was born on July 26, 1988 and lived his life with passion, joy, and brilliance in all ways. Pete was a devoted husband to Caroline. They reconnected in 2018 after being childhood friends, and married in 2020.
Constance Newell
After an exceptionally long life of service to others, Constance Newell, 101, of East Orleans passed away after a brief illness on July 12, 2026 of bi-lateral pneumonia. Born Mary Constance Marshall; Connie, as she was known from an early age, was born in 1924 in Hartford, Connecticut to Henry Herbert and Constance Bevan Marshall. Connie’s father, an MIT-graduated Engineer, made his career with Carrier Corporation, where he was on a team that pioneered the early use of Freon in refrigeration.
William F. Schmitt
Schmitt, William F. (Bill) of Harwich, MA died on July 27, age 99. Beloved husband of Nadine for nearly 75 years. Devoted father of Michael Schmitt of Harwich, and Lynn Larsen (husband, Hans) also of Harwich. He was the proud grandfather of Joanna Schmitt and Ana Larsen, great grandchildren Ty and Kaylyn, and loving uncle of several nieces and nephews. In addition, Bill is survived by his sister Claudia Major and predeceased by his sisters Alice “Lucky” Gillmore, Eva Schmitt and Millie Schmitt.
Barnstable Upsets Orleans In Women’s Soccer Final

The other team had its share of struggles, starting the season 0-4 before winning six of the following eight games (including playoffs). Last week they faced off for the bragging rights and a league trophy.
