By Dan Scanlan/MyCarData The 2002 is one of BMW’s most iconic sports coupes – distinctive shape and sporting chassis, a halo car for the German automaker from 1966 to 1977 - 837,000-plus sold to those eager to enjoy this compact legend. Now, almost 50 years later, the 2002’s spiritual successor may be the 4-Series Coupe and Convertible, which is also a halo car for BMW - 360,000 sold in 2023, jumping to 370,000 last year.

It’s a legend within its own wheelbase - the descendant of the first SUV, many say, with the apt name of Suburban. Beginning production in 1934 as an all-steel "carryall-suburban,” it had bench seats for many inside, and became a go-anywhere alternative to the wood-clad station wagons of the day. Now in its 12th generation, the Chevrolet Suburban - introduced in 2020 with a blunt, squint-eyed nose - has been refreshed for 2025.

The 2025 Buick Enclave opens the third generation of the company’s flagship SUV with a new, slightly more powerful and fuel efficient engine and a 30-inch touchscreen display that incorporates the instrument panel and infotainment functions into one wide display. At 207.6 inches in length and 87.9 inches in width including mirrors, it is slightly longer and wider than its predecessor and offers more legroom (44.3 inches) up front than the 2024 Enclave (41.2 inches).

With rare exceptions, Buicks are about refined style and attainable luxury. Designs look as though they could come straight from a concept car and models offer Cadillac features at more affordable prices. And, the brand has a long history of putting all of that in family-friendly wagons and crossovers. It’s never been better than with the redesigned 2025 Buick Enclave Avenir.

It’s been almost 30 years since Volvo, taking a page from the well-received Subaru Outback, provided its adventure-ready wagon with more ground clearance and a rough-and-ready exterior, dubbing its new confection the XC70. I, along with other journalists, had an opportunity to preview the then-new XC in California’s Baja Peninsula; both the XC70 and Baja proved to be everything a Swede might want in the middle of a Nordic winter.

There was a time when minivans ruled, with names like the Mercury Nautica, Buick Terraza, Chevrolet Lumina APV and Kia Sedona, among so many others. Now, 3-row SUVs or crossovers with room for 8 people and packages are the norm — only Honda, Toyota, Chrysler and two other marques still make the soccer family movers. But Kia headed to the big top with its current generation Carnival, with a decidedly SUV-like macho-ness about it. And for 2025, it gets a cool makeover.

Sporting eye-popping styling inside and out, the third-generation Buick Enclave is now on sale, the first all-new Enclave to come to market since 2018. It makes a grand entrance with a muscular new look including a larger grille and thin headlights — a handsome face indeed — inspired by Buick's Wildcat concept. The look is defined by pointy LED accents above the headlamps, and a trapezoidal grille with specific mesh for each of the Enclave's three trim levels.

It's been more than 14 years since the Infiniti flagship QX80 SUV has received a complete update — an incredibly long time between generations, which in a majority of vehicle nameplates comes every five or six years. The all-new 2024 QX80 marks only the third iteration of the big family hauler since its inception in 2004 when it wore the QX56 moniker.

Clad in a neon (Neoteric) yellow with green hints and some seriously angular black fender flares, our 2025 Hyundai Kona garnered some serious reaction — and it’s only a sub-compact econo-crossover. “Boy, they’ll see that coming,” said a burger joint drive-through cashier. “Oh, look at you in your electric Hyundai,” said a friend outside church, one of a number who wrongly assumed this rounded crossover was an EV. “What is that?,” asked others.

Over the river, through the woods, or just across open Interstate, the 2024 Ford Bronco Big Bend is ready for adventure. Whether bounding over rough trails to a lake cabin, gobbling up potholes on the way to work, or soaking up long miles to grandma’s house, the big bad Ford delivers. It looks the part too. Styling is lifted from the original 1966-1977 model designed by Donald Frey.
