Long-time Nevadans and Carson City residents Bob and Liz Moore will be competing for the title of “America’s Favorite Couple.” Carson City is an integral part of the couple’s love story as they met while working at the North Carson Wendy’s restaurant together and were married at St. Teresa of Avila Catholic Church.

Roses are popular, whether for scent, color or structure. Almost everyone can grow roses like vines, shrubs, hedges, groundcovers, or even in containers. There are a few standard practices to keep roses thriving in our hot, windy summer weather. Some roses may need afternoon shade so that the plants don’t go semi-dormant and cause flower production to dwindle. They need to be kept away from hot reflective surfaces. Removing spent blooms, or deadheading usually promotes additional blooms.

Carson City Fire Department, sheriff’s deputies and the Nevada Highway Patrol responded Sunday afternoon to a motorcycle reported down in the area of Highway 50 West near Golf Club Drive in the eastbound lane. Carson City dispatch was alerted at around 1:45 p.m. of the single-vehicle accident west of Golf Club Drive. A motorist told dispatch the rider is conscious and breathing with lacerations on his arms and side.

Travel delays and heavy traffic should be anticipated at the State Route 28 and U.S. 50 intersection at Tahoe weekdays through Tuesday, June 30 as part of a continuing Nevada Department of Transportation project to resurface U.S. 50. Travel delays are anticipated to be heavy as roadway paving takes place in the area, including during the afternoon and evening commute from approximately 3-6 p.m. NDOT is advising motorists to anticipate travel delays at the State Route 28 and U.S. 50 intersection.

Stage 1 Fire Restrictions for the Carson and Bridgeport Ranger Districts will begin on Monday, June 29, 2026. These restrictions will remain in effect until rescinded. “Temperatures have increased and brush and grass are drying out,” said Issac Walden, district fire management officer for the Bridgeport Ranger District.

The Nevada Highway Patrol is on scene of a fatal collision involving a semi truck and two vehicles that happened Sunday morning at US-50 and Traditions in Dayton. The incident was reported at 7:14 a.m. as a three vehicle collision involving a semi and two vehicles. There is at least one fatality, said Trooper James LaRose, public information officer for the Nevada Highway Patrol. US-50 is closed in both directions and air ambulances have responded, he said.
