A new report from the Traffic Injury Research Foundation (TIRF) contains a statistic that deserves attention: in 2023, 41.2% of the road deaths in its Canadian database involved at least one driver who tested positive for drugs. Investigators have seized a large quantity of illicit nicotine products as a result of two search warrants. On September 16, 2026, members of the Nelson RCMP, with assistance from BC Highway Patrol, executed search warrants at two commercial businesses in Castlegar and Nelson as part of an investigation into the sale of contraband nicotine pouches. During the searches, officers seized illicit nicotine products with an estimated value of approximately $42,000.
