How the culture wars led Kate to the Catholic Church
Kate Williamson spent decades negotiating. Multi-million-dollar construction contracts, legal clauses, the fine print of the corporate world. She was good at it. But what she couldn’t negotiate away was the ache of a question she couldn’t even name. “It’s taken me a long time to find the faith,” she says. “I’m not sure why. But here we are.” Kate grew up on a farm in central Queensland, the youngest child of Catholic parents.

Every Wednesday, Sr Anne Martin knocks on the door of 96-year-old Maltese born Connie Agius and brings her Holy Communion. “She says to me, ‘I love it when you come,’” Sr Anne recalled. “And I say, ‘Why, Connie? Why?’ And she says, ‘Because you bring Jesus into my heart.’ What more gratitude could I get? It’s such a privilege.” Connie can no longer make it to Mass.
