Heavy equipment and construction noise have taken over this corner of Robbinsdale. But those sounds won’t last forever according to Matt Bazyk, the city’s recreation services manager. “We’re at Sanborn Park here in Robbinsdale and we are looking over the soon-to-be tennis courts and pickleball courts,” says Matt Bazyk. Construction workers work to prepare site of new tennis and pickleball courts.

The City of Plymouth is gearing up for its All Abilities Walk, Roll, and Ride event this September at the Northwest Greenway Pavilion. “We are really celebrating inclusion and just opportunities for people with disabilities in the community,” says Plymouth Recreation Supervisor Paul Pearson. “Especially to experience our parks here in Plymouth. Osseo Football Loses ’26 Opener 48-12 3:56 PM | Friday, September 4, 2026 Wilson-Bright Tambe scored four rushing touchdowns in the first half to help lead the Coon Rapids football team to a 48-12 win over Osseo. The Orioles trailed 33-6 at halftime with their lone touchdown coming on a 28-yard pass from Kipton Croatt to Augustine Nkwocha. It was the debut game for new Orioles head coach EJ Shelby. The Orioles host Centennial (1-0) in the Orioles’ home opener on Thursday.

The Park Center football team lost 28-6 to Irondale in the season opener in Brooklyn Park Thursday. Irondale built a 14-0 halftime lead and were up 21-0 after three quarters. Caden Hanson scored all four touchdowns for the Knights.

The first week of school was cut short for students at Sandburg Middle School. The district opted to cancel classes for Friday, Sep. 4, citing high temperatures and an abundance of caution. Sandburg, which is located in Golden Valley, has students in grades 6-8. Community members shared concerns about high temperatures on social media. A district representative didn’t confirm the reason for high temperatures in the building, though it did say the air conditioning will be turned on on Friday, Sep. 4.

On National Night Out, the top concern Brooklyn Park Police Chief Mark Bruley heard from residents was the dangerous behavior of people riding e-bikes and other micromobility vehicles. “It was the No. 1 complaint that I received at every party I went to, was about regulating and what we’re going to do,” he said at an Aug. 24 city council meeting.

The Champlin Park football team kicked off their 2026 season with a shut out, 35-0 win on the road over St. Michael-Albertville. Eric Lukes got the Rebels on the board midway through the second quarter with a 57-yard end around touchdown. Dual-threat quarterback Miles Felton ran in three goal line touchdowns in the second half. The Rebel defense was stifling all night highlighted by a strip sack fumble by Jaylen Purnell recovered by Logan Leonhardt.

Living along the water is a dream come true for many Minnesotans. For Curt Putland, who has lived near Rice Lake in Maple Grove for 16 years, the lake holds deep sentimental value. “The whole reason why I bought this was, my favorite memories with my dad were at the lake,” Putland said. Putland tries to get his boat out on the water as often as possible, but this summer has presented some challenges.

The Maple Grove football team started its 2026 season with a great defensive effort, shutting out Stillwater 15-0. The Crimson got on the board late in the first quarter on a 55-yard Adam Patefield interception return for a touchdown and limited the Ponies to 228 yards of total offense. Maple Grove scored nine points in the second half off a 32-yard Matthew Richardson field goal and a 55-yard touchdown pass from Graham Greseth to Briggs Tarnowski.
