The 2026 Taipei AMPA, held alongside Autotronics Taipei and E-Mobility Taiwan, opened yesterday at the Nangang Exhibition Center, bringing together government and industry leaders, buyers, media, and exhibitors for one of Asia’s leading automotive trade events focused on mobility, sustainability, and connectivity.

Tasmania and Taichung are deepening cooperation in renewable energy and precision manufacturing. Hon Hai Precision Industry and Mitsubishi FUSO Truck and Bus Corporation are set to collaborate on the development and production of large electric buses, with plans to export to Southeast Asia and Australia by around 2030, according to Japanese media reports. The two companies are expected to establish a joint venture in the second half of this year, with each holding a 50% stake. Production will take place at Mitsubishi FUSO’s bus manufacturing facility in Toyama, Japan.

Taiwan’s automotive market is entering a period of heightened competition and cautious optimism, as global uncertainties continue to weigh on consumer sentiment. Honda Motor projects total vehicle sales in Taiwan to reach approximately 420,000 units in 2026, adopting a more conservative outlook compared to Hotai Motor’s estimate of 440,000 units. The forecast reflects that ongoing tensions in the Middle East are contributing factors to market volatility.

Taiwan’s global trade position strengthened significantly in 2025, as the rapid expansion of artificial intelligence (AI) applications drove recovery in global demand. According to the Ministry of Finance Taiwan, Taiwan’s total exports reached USD 640 billion, accounting for 2.4% of global trade and ranking 12th worldwide, up four places from 2024 and the highest level since 1994.

Taiwan’s fastener industry is confronting mounting headwinds, as rising energy costs, intensifying low-price competition from China and Southeast Asia, and weakening demand in Europe converge. Manufacturers, including Boltun Corporation, Sheh Fung, and Samsung, are actively sustaining competitiveness. The downturn is particularly evident in Germany, Taiwan’s largest export market for fasteners in Europe.

The Taiwan International Machine Show (TMTS) 2026 opened on March 25 at the Taichung International Convention and Exhibition Center (TICEC), as a flagship event for the machine tool industry.
