Central Radio North West is the local commercial radio station for Blackpool, Preston, Chorley, Blackburn and Burnley. We play a mix of music from the 1970s to the present day, as well as local news, sport and information. The station has a team of experienced presenters who are passionate about giving listeners the best possible experience. Central Radio North West is a proudly independent local radio station serving communities across Lancashire, with a clear mission: to provide truly local broadcasting that reflects, supports and celebrates the area it serves. Alongside its sister station, Beyond Radio in Lancaster, the organisation has stepped in to fill a growing gap in the market—where many traditional local stations have been absorbed into larger national networks, often losing their local identity and focus. One year to go until the Tour de France arrives in Lancashire

In 2027, the Tour de France and Tour de France Femmes avec Zwift will both begin in the United Kingdom - the first time both Grands Départshave taken place in the same country, outside France. On Saturday 3 July 2027 Lancashire will be in the spotlight as Stage 2 of the men's Tour de France passes through around 80 miles of the county, including Morecambe, Lancaster, the Forest of Bowland, Clitheroe, Blackburn, Chorley and West Lancashire.

Two men jailed after teenager assaulted and threatened with imitation handgun in Brierfield

The 19-year-old victim had just left a shop on Walter Street around 2pm on 23rd February when he was confronted by Muhammad Danish and Malik Khan. Danish pulled a black handgun from his jacket and pointed it the teenager and made a demand for money. Fearing for his life, he ran off but on reaching Townley Street, tripped and fell. Danish and Khan caught up with him, kicking him several times and again demanded money, telling him ‘Take your phone out, empty your account’.

Two men jailed for attacking man in his Blackpool home

Paul Judson-Jones (pictured below left) and Michael Johnson (pictured below right) were wearing balaclavas when they carried out the robbery at an address on Airedale Avenue, Blackpool, on 19th November last year. Around 11am the pair tried the door handle of the house. The noise attracted the attention of the householder – a man in his 40s – who went to check who was at the door. When he opened the door, he saw two men outside wearing balaclavas.

Preston freedom parade will mark 20th anniversary of Duke of Lancaster's Regiment

The military parade will include several hundred serving Kingsmen, followed by a special service at the Cenotaph to honour local war heroes. Originally built to commemorate the sacrifice of those from Preston lost in the First World War, the Cenotaph now represents those also lost in the Second World War, and subsequent conflicts around the world. The celebrations will begin with a parade by the Duke of Lancaster's Regiment exercising their Freedom of the City to march as a civic honour.

Blackpool Vic battles to retain vital ‘temporary’ Covid building

The applicants, Blackpool Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, were faced with the possible prospect of the temporary building having to come down, if its proposals to retain it were refused. It was argued that this would have been a waste of resources and that the public in Blackpool would have regarded it as such. It is still in active and vital use, housing the hospital’s Ward 4, the Acute Frailty Unit.

Burnley MP slam football closures

Weighing in on the public debate, Oliver Ryan MP said that the proposal, which would shut the routes around Turf Moor during home games, would cause ‘utter carnage’ in Burnley. The traffic regulation order being proposed by Lancashire County Council would see the ad hoc closure of Yorkshire Street, Todmorden Road and half a mile of Belvedere Road.

Lancashire Police launch summer crackdown on drink and drug driving

The warning comes as officers launch Operation Limit, a campaign run throughout the summer, aimed at preventing drug and drink related casualties across the county. Last year in Lancashire a total of 13,767 vehicles were stopped. During this period, 10,484 breath tests were conducted, resulting in 1,351 positive alcohol readings. Additionally, 3,283 roadside drug tests were carried out, with 1,559 positive results. This has led to a total of 2,831 arrests for either drink or drug driving.

Residents urged to keep reporting odour issues after abatement notice issued

Wyre Council has issued an abatement notice to Transwaste Recycling and Aggregates Ltd, the operator of Jameson Road Landfill. This requires the company to stop unwanted odour from the site impacting upon local residents within 60 days and to prevent its recurrence. Both during and after this period, residents should continue recording incidents of smells on diary sheets as evidence of how they are being impacted in their homes.
