Students enrolled in Director of Undergraduate Research Jennifer Gander's Introduction to Public Health class fanned out across three counties to various sites, collecting more than 400 surveys for Ephraim McDowell Regional Health's Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA).
Centre grad helping send Americans back into deep space
When Artemis II lifted off on Wednesday, April 1, from Kennedy Space Center in Florida, among those keenly watching the rocket soar into space was Jimmy Skaggs ’01, who has spent the last 20 years helping humans return to the moon. Skaggs serves as Spacecraft Flow Manager for Lockheed Martin, the lead contractor for the design, development, testing and production of the Orion spacecraft for NASA’s Artemis missions.
Centre team takes top spot in annual business competition
When Centre College’s team of student business analysts took their turn at the podium during the annual CFA Challenge, they heard a mysterious comment from the judges. “We’re getting ready to present, and one of the judges said, ‘Oh, this is the interesting one,” said senior Carlie Mitchell.
McAllister named Provost and VP of Academic Affairs at Centre
Centre College President Milton C. Moreland announced this week that Alex McAllister has been named Provost and Vice President for Academic Affairs following a national search. McAllister is a longtime member of the Centre faculty and has filled the role of Dean of the College an interim basis over the past year. He previously served as Associate Dean of the College for six years.
Hein, McNeilly capture national titles in historic weekend for Centre Track & Field
Last weekend, juniors Chloe Hein and Serena McNeilly wrote their names into Centre Athletics history at the 2026 NCAA Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships. McNeilly claimed national titles in both the pentathlon and the high jump, and Hein won the long jump championship. "This is a historic moment for Centre Athletics," said Director of Athletics Brad Fields.
Students launch Centre’s first mock trial team, score win at regional competition
Aidan Taylor, a sophomore double major in Politics and History, was already busy as a cross-country and track athlete when his father encouraged him to try another campus activity. That suggestion sparked a chain reaction, bringing a new student-led organization to campus. “I didn’t really want to join a different club,” Taylor said.

Declan Miller embarked on his college journey with a clear vision for future. The Milton, Georgia, native wanted to gain experience on Capitol Hill and eventually run for political office. Centre Sweethearts Share Their Love Stories
Ruth Burkey ’83 and Paul Burkey ’81's love story began in front of the old Beta house when a mutual friend made the introduction. Ruth admits she borrowed Paul’s notes from their government class as an excuse to see him again, and he saw right through it. Their first major milestone came at the end of Ruth's first year during Flyaway Weekend, when Paul won a raffle trip to Disney World.
Tenure and promotions announced for four Centre faculty members
Centre College is pleased to announce that four members of the faculty were granted tenure and promotion to associate professor at the February 2026 meeting of the Centre College Board of Trustees. Kiyona Brewster joined the Centre College faculty as an Assistant Professor of Sociology in 2017. Her teaching and research interests include race and ethnicity, gender, qualitative methods, family studies, and religion.

In Visiting Assistant Professor of Chemistry Reagan Witt's Poisons and Pollution CentreTerm course, students are discovering that environmental disasters aren't just historical footnotes — they're urgent lessons in science, policy and human responsibility. This introductory course gives students a hands-on look at basic chemistry and toxicology by diving into real case studies.
