Franklin – A 14-4 loss to Franklin was not an ideal start to the season for Murphy baseball, but it’s a little more understandable once the run-up to the season is laid out. “Right now, the thing we most need is game-type reps,” head coach Tyler Edwards said. “We’ve had one practice on the field as a team. Today’s only the second day we’ve all been out there at the same time.” It may take some time for the Bulldogs to settle in on the field as well as to some new faces on the coaching staff.

FRANKLIN – U.S. Rep Chuck Edwards is withdrawing from his reelection bid, he announced just before 4 a.m. today in a statement on his official Facebook page. The House Ethics Committee recommended Monday that Edwards be censured by the full House after finding that he engaged in persistent unprofessional and inappropriate conduct toward two young female aides in his congressional office.

Food distribution planned for Aug. 19 Andrews Seventh-Day Adventist Church and Grace Fellowship Baptist Curch will distribute produce canned goods and other items from Manna Foods of Asheville on Wednesday, Aug. 19 from noon-1:15 p.m. Distribution will be at Andrews Senior Center at Main and Park.

Football will kick things off with a preseason scrimmage on Friday, then volleyball will get into full swing on Tuesday for the first regular season contests. Peachtree – The American Championship Wrestling Federation returned to the Peachtree Community Center Saturday night for a nine-match show. The show saw debuts and titles on the lines. In the main event, Killshot took on a mystery opponent – one of two mystery opponents on the card. Killshot defeated Michael in the main event on Saturday night. In the co-main event, The Family put their ACWF tag team titles on the lines against Thundercat and Theo.

Body Maverick Hawley of Hiwassee Dam has been selected to represent the Choctaw Tribe at the Patriot Games. The Patriot Games are a part of the Freedom 250 celebration across the United States this year. Hawley competes on the Hiwassee Dam cross-country and track & field teams, as well as the Eagles’ basketball team. The high school junior will head to the SPIRE Academy in Geneva, Ohio for the Patriot Games.

ROBBINSVILLE, Graham County – The Board of Aldermen granted Robbinsville Mayor Shaun Adams a three-month leave of absence on Tuesday following his arrests on Monday on multiple drug-related felony charges. Adams was free on bond and presided over Tuesday's board meeting, which included aldermen Brenda Norville, Johnnie William and Jacky Ayers, who is also mayor pro tem.

Frontier Internet customers who are connected by landlines are being told the service is being discontinued, but assured customers it would continue copper-line service for those who have no other option. "As Verizon transitions from legacy copper to modern networks, we are committed to ensuring no customer is left behind," said Lauren Peterson of Verizon Corporate Communications.
