The 10th annual Duggy Nelson Memorial Golf Tournament will take place at Sioux Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 12. For the second year in a row, the 18-hole event will be a Big Cup golf scramble with larger than normal sized holes. The golf tournament begins at 9 a.m. with a shotgun start. Cost to play is $240 per four-person teams ($55 per person) and includes 18 holes of golf, a cart, lunch, prize money, raffles and a $10 donation to the scholarship fund.

The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser cross country teams bring back six letterwinners from last year’s sqaud. The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser cross country teams have six runners returning from last year’s squad. We were hit hard with graduation and will have only 12 total runners this season.

The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser Booster Club is hosting the 13th Annual Bulldog Booster Club Golf Scramble at Sioux Creek Golf Course on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 2 p.m. Teams are encouraged to sign up soon as spots are filling up fast. The cost is $60 per person, which includes green fees, a golf cart, a mulligan and dinner at the course. The golf scramble format will have four-person teams playing a nine-hole scramble.

Norm and Marge Gunderson of Chetek, Wisconsin, recently traveled to Alaska. The  couple went salmon fishing on Kenai river in Soldotna, Alaska, which is approximately 3,403 miles from Chetek.

Sunday, Aug. 16 5:39 p.m., Barron County Sheriff’s deputies were notified of a damaged mailbox at a residence in the 1300 block of 18 1/2 Street in Cameron. The property owner noted the mailbox had been knocked off its swinging pole but later reported it was put back in place with no lasting damage. 6:04 p.m., Chetek Police advised a group of youths to refrain from doing wheelies on bicycles in the roadway near Sumner Avenue and Pinegrove Avenue in Chetek.

Support the Chetek Chain of Lakes fishery and local organization Walleyes for Chetek by attending the annual Labor Day weekend raffle drawing fundraiser on Sunday, Sept. 6. The event will, once again, take place at Gilligans, beginning at 2 p.m., and will feature a variety of raffle prizes, including gun raffles, paddle raffles, various door prizes, silent auction items, Green Bay Packers tickets, Owen Knutson Memorial fishing rod and a Yeti cooler, a kayak/paddleboard giveaway, music and more.

Chetek resident Dave Lentz, who is the president at Sterling Bank in Chetek, aced a hole-in-one at Getaway Golf Club on hole No. 6 on Wednesday, Aug. 19. Lentz nailed the hole-in-one with 4-hybrid on the 153-yard par 3. Lentz was golfing in the Wednesday Night Men’s League with Scott Kowalski, Bryan Miller and Dave Coy. It is the first hole-in-one under the new ownership of Dave and Amy Hauser, owners of Getaway Golf Club. It is the first hole-in-one of Lentz’s golf career.

The Chetek-Weyerhaeuser football team defeated the Cumberland Beavers 15-6 in the 2026 season opener in Chetek on Friday, Aug. 22.
