A woman in her 50s was arrested last week for criminal harassment of Longueuil Mayor Catherine Fournier, police announced Monday. Longueuil police arrested the woman, who is not a resident, last Wednesday evening. The alleged actions took place the previous day at the municipal council meeting and concerned the management of the deer population in Michel-Chartrand Park, the police said in a press release.

Montreal Canadiens head coach Martin St. Louis is returning to the NHL team's bench for Tuesday's game against the Colorado Avalanche. St. Louis had been away from the team since March 16 for family reasons. The Canadiens say St. Louis' 16-year-old son, Mason, suffered an injury while playing in a hockey game. Mason experienced injury complications a week later and was hospitalized.

Those Easter eggs and bunnies could cost consumers a little more this year. According to one food expert, the chocolate eggs are 30 per cent more expensive this year compared to last year, partly due to demand and growing conditions. "Prices of cocoa actually increased by $100 in just a couple of days. The kind of the rhythm that we're on right now is just crazy. McGill University teaching assistants launched a strike Monday after voting in favour of an eight-week strike mandate last week. Foreign Affairs Minister Melanie Joly says Canada is airlifting vulnerable Canadians out of Haiti by helicopter to the Dominican Republic as conditions continue to deteriorate. Haiti has been in a profound security crisis since mid-2021, when gangs took control of key infrastructure and started violent turf wars that have led to a collapse of most medical and food systems in the country.

Proposed regulations on the language of commercial signage could lead to the "disappearance of popular products" from Quebec stores, says an international business group. Global Affairs Canada says two more Canadians have died in the war between Ukraine and Russia, bringing the total number of Canadians killed in that conflict to 11. An obituary for Alain Derasp says the veteran of the Canadian Forces Royal 22nd Regiment and father of four died in Ukraine on Feb. 27. A military source who asked not to be identified because they are not authorized to speak to the media says Derasp had been providing first aid training in Ukraine and died of an illness.

A military unit of foreign fighters in the Ukrainian war had taken up covert missions against Russia when its Canadian commander was killed, says a researcher who studies war in the former Soviet Union. Jean-François Ratelle, who led the Norman Brigade under the nom de guerre Hrulf, was one of two Canadians to die within the past month fighting for Ukraine.

A preliminary hearing is underway for a Quebec man accused of killing two young children by allegedly driving a city bus into a Montreal-area daycare last year. Pierre Ny St-Amand was arrested after a transit bus crashed into the front of a daycare in the Ste-Rose neighbourhood of Laval, Que., on Feb. 8, 2023, killing two young children and injuring six others.
