Chris Langan's Ultimate Reality
Newsletter (Digital)
Some people like to immerse themselves in reality. Others prefer to think about reality - to dissect it, analyze it, evaluate it. I've always liked to do both, but only in keeping with the fact that they form an inseparable whole, a unified reality with experiential, ontological, and epistemological aspects that cannot, in the final analysis, be divided.
I'm Christopher Michael Langan, author of the Cognitive Theoretic Model of the Universe (CTMU). The CTMU, which originated in the 1980's and remains the premier theory of mathematical metaphysics, can be succinctly described in several ways; for example, as a metaphysical (ontological, epistemological, and scientific) formulation of logic comprising a self-contained description of reality on its most general and basic level of existence. Thus, the CTMU can elucidate the relationship between man and reality, enabling mankind to better accommodate and peacefully evolve within the reality we inhabit. The CTMU can also be described as a metareligion, or a theological metalanguage in which various bodies of religious belief can be convergently interpreted for purposes of spiritual unification. Thus, the CTMU has the potential to eliminate religious conflict and strengthen the Brotherhood of Man. Source

My current (intended) post has now reached forty or fifty pages. That’s what tends to happen when the ideas swarm in, land on, and stick to whatever I’m writing, making it all but unintelligible to anyone but hardcore CTMU experts. Let me buy a little more time on it with this annotated version of a recent exchange on X. Up through the early 1960s, American society was, for the most part, clean and stable.

The continuation of my CTMU-oriented commentary on the ideas of Dr. Seán Ó’ Nualláin This is the long-promised second part of my philosophical and scientific encomium for the brilliant theoretical generalist Dr. Sean O’Nuallain. Again, it has to do with the relationship between Sean’s ideas and the CTMU. It is expressed in what I hope is a clear and intelligent way.
Chris Langan's Ultimate Reality
At the end of my last post, I promised to present Part 2 of my response to Timothy Berlyn regarding the ideas of Sean O Nuallain, Founder of the group “Foundations of Mind” and “Bionoetics”. That promise stands, but there’s something to which I’d like to attend first. The other day, I was given a heads-up regarding a pair of videos that had appeared on YouTube in the last week or so. These videos, both about topics on which I’ve written extensively, appeared only two days apart.
Remarks on the Passing of Dr. Sean O Nuallain
As some readers are aware, I’m a member of Foundations of Mind, a research group founded and run by Dr. Seán Ó’ Nualláin. On returning from a recent forced absence of several weeks, I was greeted with some very unwelcome news from one of Sean’s closest colleagues, Cynthia Sue Larson.
The Dualistic Verification Gap
First things first: Merry Christmas! I’m pleased to note that many forgetful people seem to be reawakening to our need for decency and morality, and the traditional role of Christianity in their support and normalization. I should perhaps preface my opening comments with a sarcasm alert. Here in north Missouri, we’ve already had a major snowfall - that was weeks ago, in fact - and a subzero night or two as well.
Grok Jumps the Pooch
I occasionally post on social media platforms like FB and X (formerly Twitter). When I do, I try to tell the truth about what’s happening and why. Unfortunately, my efforts are thankless.
CTMU Q&A
It’s no secret, so we might as well face it: we live in a sick world. It’s not sick because of its natural configuration. It’s sick because of the venal, avaricious, meretricious, intellectually mediocre, fantastically dishonest miscreants allowed to run it. We now officially live in an oligarchy, and it’s been living up to its bad reputation in every way.
A Tale of Two Theories
We’ve been talking about supervenience lately, concluding that reality must be self-contained and therefore include its own medium or ontic substrate. In other words, reality requires a mereologically consistent intrinsic background to support its own existence. This might be expressed by calling reality “self-supervenient”.
An Email on the Fence
Many readers are familiar with Foundations of Mind, a research group to which I belong. Sean O’Nuallain, a distinguished cognitive and computer scientist who founded the group, is apparently planning a conference to which various academics have been invited. The subject will be the work of Sean’s mentor Walter Freeman III, and especially his thoughts regarding quantum field theory and symmetry breaking as they relate to consciousness and cognition.
First things first: Happy Independence Day! Long live the United States of America, the sacred ideals of its Constitution, and the inspired dreams of its Founding Fathers.
