In recent years, America’s Catholic bishops have tended to treat the notion of assimilation as detrimental to their federally-funded programs that encourage immigration, both legal and illegal. And they’ve candidly stated their reasons for the record. In January 2003, the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) published a pastoral letter, “Strangers No Longer: Together on the Journey of Hope,” co-authored with their brother bishops in Mexico, to address the issue of immigration.

In November 1969, the U.S. Catholic bishops voted to establish the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD) to serve as their “social justice, anti-poverty campaign.” The timing is not inconsequential. The recent revelations regarding the contents of the diaries, emails, and cell phone records of Dr. Anthony Fauci have produced a curious sidebar that involves the Catholic Church, and specifically the American Catholic hierarchy. When Fauci assumed the role of Covid Commando and promulgated the reams of regulations, orders, and guidelines, combined with the mandatory punishments regarding infringements of his diktats, America’s Catholic hierarchy quickly fell into line.
