[Fall 2024] by Bernard Schütze For over twenty years, Kim Waldron has pursued an enterprising art practice in which she explores modes of self-representation to inscribe herself in such social spheres as family life, various inflections of labour, representative politics, and corporate finance. by Caroline Nepton-Hotte [EXCERPT] Offering a space for connection, in complete safety, affirming an immemorial presence – this is what the multidisciplinary artist and filmmaker Caroline Monnet has done in her photographs and films. Monnet, whose ancestry is Anishinaabe and French, sets out to create sites of resistance for Indigenous women.

Summary This issue's dossier features portfolios by Caroline Monnet, Zaynê Akyol and Suzy Lake, on the theme of Sisters, Fighters, Queens. More specifically, their works tell the story of women’s affirmation and contributions in various contexts: decolonization, resistance to Islamic fundamentalism and the reconsideration of traditional gamesmanship.

[August 14, 2024] By Robert Walker I often wondered why the colours mauve, purple, and lavender were associated with a “gay aesthetic” – if, indeed, there is such a thing. Purple has long been synonymous with gay and bisexual people, but why? From some research originally conducted by Scott McPherson, I learned that the origin of the association goes back to 1856, when an English chemist accidentally discovered the first synthetic dye, mauveine.

[July 3, 2024] By Marie Perrault Mélissa Longpré’s third book, J’ai pensé à toi, is composed of photographs, drawings, and messages involving a collection of birds that she has assembled over the years. The book was created in conjunction with three exhibitions presented by Longpré in Quebec City and Montreal in 2024.
