The Carle Health system and Mary Free Bed Rehabilitation are partnering together to enhance patient outcomes and the inpatient rehab experience in central Illinois.

Officer shot report numbers down The National Fraternal Order of Police reports, through Oct. 31, 285 police officers have been shot in the line of duty across the United States this year. The number is down 5% from the same period in 2024. Illinois is tied for tenth on the list of most officers shot this year with nine.

(The Center Square) – GE Appliances announced Thursday it is investing more than $150 million into contracts for suppliers in the United States, contributing toward a new laundry manufacturing plant. The appliance company, whose parent company is China-based Haier, plans to split up investments across suppliers in 10 states and focus on steel, resins, parts and components in order to develop products at a washer and dryer plant which is being built in Louisville, Kentucky.

Police say an 18-year-old Normal man has been arrested in connection with a Wednesday morning shooting that left one person seriously injured. Officers were called to a home in the 700 block of Hale Street around 3:30 a.m., where they found a victim who had been struck by gunfire. Police and firefighters provided emergency care before the victim was taken to a local hospital and later transferred to an out-of-area medical facility for further treatment.

(The Center Square) – The push continues to have voters if Illinois should be a 3% surcharge on millionaires. Former Illinois Gov. Pat Quinn this week relaunched his effort to bring about the ballot referendum after the nonbinding question was approved in 2024. He stopped at the state capitol in Springfield on Wednesday. “We need a millionaire amendment for property tax relief for families and businesses all across Illinois,” Quinn told reporters.

ICC approves smaller rate increases The Illinois Commerce Commission has approved smaller utility rate hikes than the ones requested by Ameren Illinois and Nicor. The ICC reduced Nicor’s $314 million increase by $146.5 million, or nearly 47%. The ICC cut $55.8 million, or about 43%, from Ameren’s $128.8 million rate request for its natural gas delivery services.

(The Center Square) – State agency officials continue to address the error rate with Illinois’ handling of federal food subsidies. During a Joint Committee on Administrative Rules hearing this week, the Illinois Department of Human Services answered questions about the state’s handling of the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. State Sen. Don DeWitte, R-St. Charles, asked why the error rate has gone from 5.7% to 11.5% in 8 years.

(The Center Square) – Digital IDs have gone live in Illinois, but libertarians say the move makes it easier for governments to track people. Illinois Secretary of State Alexi Giannoulias announced in Chicago Tuesday that Illinois would join 12 other states and the territory of Puerto Rico by offering driver’s licenses and state IDs in Apple Wallet to their residents. Giannoulias said, starting Wednesday, Illinoisans will be able to add their state-issued ID directly to their Apple Wallet.
