The Cost of Canceled Corporate Enforcement
Corporations and billionaires are pouring eye-popping sums into super PACs to influence how Americans vote in the 2026 midterms. Many of these same corporations are benefiting from decisions by the Trump administration to cancel enforcement actions against them. A previous Public Citizen report found that more than 200 corporations have benefited from the Trump administration canceling federal enforcement against them.

The canceled actions include federal investigations, enforcement lawsuits, prior settlements, and other accountability measures for alleged lawbreaking. Sectors that have benefited most are banks and finance (51), tech (28), and cryptocurrency and fintech (26).
