Following the decision to decommission line three early, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will be increasing service as more riders return to the TTC. Mayor Olivia Chow and TTC CEO Rick Leary announced at Scarborough Town Centre station that starting Sept. 3, the TTC service would return to 93 per cent of pre-pandemic levels. The service change comes in two days before school starts up again for many in order to accommodate the increase of students using the service.

As the new school year starts, so do the clubs and activities with Dungeons and Dragons (D&D) after school programs being an option that helps kids develop social and teamwork skills. D&D is a collaborative storytelling fantasy tabletop roleplaying game that has been around for over 45 years. Players create characters to form a party and go out on homemade or pre-written adventures.

Deborah Dundas, editor at the Toronto Star, has recently released her first book which blends personal recollections of poverty with journalistic investigation with activists and the poor. Dundas due to her book has been invited to attend multiple book and writers festivals during the fall. These include the Eden Mills, Kingston and Vancouver writers fest. She has also been invited to Sudbury’s Wordstock in November.

Winnipeg documentary director and editor Kartsen Wall premiers his first short nature documentary at this year’s Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF). Modern Goose is a nature documentary following the trend of having no narration; Wall says this is to allow the audience to decide on their own meaning and interpretation of the film. The documentary is just over 20 minutes in length of cut together footage of the local Winnipeg geese.

Utilizing his silky smooth jumpshot and aggressive drives to the basket, Aaron Rhooms continues to be an offensive catalyst for the TMU Bold. For his efforts, Rhooms cruised to a consecutive OUA (Ontario University Athletics) First-team All-Star selection after averaging 18.5 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 2.5 assists. It was another accolade for the USPORTS star, who won OUA and USPORTS rookie of the year honours in 2022.

As one of this summer’s most anticipated films, Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer begins with fire on the screen and a quote on Prometheus, the god of fire in Greek mythology. The quote expresses that he stole fire from the other gods and gave it to humans. For this,  Prometheus was chained to a rock for eternity and tortured. This beginning to the thrilling historical drama gives the audience an immediate connection between the protagonist, J.
