On Wednesday, July 29, the National Trust for Canada will host a free, family-friendly celebration at Head-Smashed-In Buffalo Jump as part of a national initiative marking the 50th anniversary of Canada signing the UNESCO World Heritage Convention, an international treaty that recognizes and protects cultural and natural heritage places of outstanding value to humanity.

The two organizations entered a formal partnership in 2021, and has been renewed twice more, once in 2023 and now. The partnership will see an additional $8.2 million invested in more than 200 Indigenous-owned businesses in Alberta.

As part of highlighting the diverse culture, Travel Alberta, along with Indigenous Tourism Alberta (ITA), have been partnering with Indigenous entrepreneurs in Alberta to help businesses get their dreams off the ground.

On July 23, the Tsuut’ina Fire Rescue, Calgary Fire Department, and Kidde announced a new fire safety partnership. Representatives of Kidde, a fire safety company, donated about $86,000 worth of smoke alarms to Tsuut’ina and Calgary fire services, to be given to those in need across the two communities.

Youth between the ages of nine and 17 will have an opportunity to get free basketball coaching from Calgary’s professional basketball team, the Surge. The weekly clinics are scheduled to run from June 30 to Oct. 4 at Century Gardens Basketball Courts (826 8 Ave. S.W.). Jason Ribeiro is the Vice-Chairman and President of the Calgary Surge.

Entitled “Always in My Heart,” the floor-to-ceiling piece is full of vibrant colour. It depicts a girl in a red jingle dress petting an ethereal house in front of the Starlight tipi.
