Founded in 1887 with a large endowment from its namesake Jonas Gilman Clark, a prominent businessman, Clark was one of the first modern research universities in the United States. On Friday, August 10, 1945, Esther Goddard opened a pocket-sized diary and turned to the day’s page. Picking up her pen, she carefully wrote, “Darling Bob slipped away.” The journal was not her own. Her husband, rocketry pioneer Robert Goddard, was a compulsive diarist, recording his work and activities over nearly 50 years. That summer, when worsening esophageal cancer and hospital visits had made it impossible for him to keep the diary current, Esther did it for him.

Geographer Florencia Sangermano and her global colleagues conduct research on how Indigenous lands in the Amazon region help buffer and protect humans from forest fire-related illnesses and, in many cases, animal- and insect-borne diseases.

The Jack lab at Clark University studies plant-microbe interactions in agricultural and natural systems to gain an understanding of their influence on below-ground population dynamics. Research - The Spratt Lab
The regulation of enzyme catalysis and protein function resulting from the specific interactions between two or more proteins plays an integral role in cell division and homeostasis. The development of various human diseases can occur when these protein-protein interactions are disrupted or modified. Understanding how these protein-protein interactions affect an enzyme’s ability to make or break bonds and its underlying mechanism is an important step in drug design/development.

Most of the diversity found across the animal kingdom is related to sex. Individuals invest an incredible amount of time and energy into fighting for mates and gaining the attention of potential mates. This competition over reproduction has resulted in a diverse array of sexually selected traits and mating strategies. The McCullough lab is interested in the costs and benefits of these sexually selected traits, and how and why they differ among populations and species.

Sergio Granados-Focil
Professor Granados-Focil is a polymer scientist with 20+ years of experience in his field. He is an expert on the synthesis and characterization of macromolecules that exhibit selective transport properties for several applications, such as energy storage, building temperature regulation, carbon capture, sustainable concrete, and sensing technologies.
Charles Agosta | Faculty
C. Agosta is a low temperature experimental physicist who was originally trained to study the properties of fluids at very low temperatures. His present research interests are lower dimensional superconductors in very high magnetic fields, dc microgrids, and heat transfer in gas boundary layers.
