Ghana’s Black Challenge have begun preparations for the 2026 World Amputee Football Federation (WAFF) World Cup, with 20 players named in a provisional squad for the national team camp. The global tournament is scheduled to take place in San Juan de los Lagos, Mexico, from November 13 to 22, 2026, with 24 nations expected to compete for the world title.

The Government has announced plans to rehabilitate all 22 existing irrigation facilities in the Volta Region by the end of 2027 as part of efforts to transition Ghana from rain-fed agriculture to year-round irrigation-based farming. The Minister for Food and Agriculture, Eric Opoku, made the announcement at the national launch of the Ghana Tomato Self-Sufficiency Initiative (GHATSI) at Anloga in the Volta Region.

The Accra High Court hearing the case involving businessman and politician Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, popularly known as  Wontumi, and others in connection with an alleged EXIM Bank loan case has adjourned the matter to October 13, 2026. Lawyer Joshua Sackey, who represented the prosecution, informed the court that the prosecution had filed a new charge sheet on September 22, 2026 and served copies on counsel for the accused persons.

A former Managing Director of Barclays Bank Ghana and Group Chief Executive Officer of Hollard Ghana Holdings, Patience Enyonam Akyianu, has reportedly died. CEO Network Ghana announced her death in a statement, describing her passing as a loss to the business community.

The Northern Regional Police Command has arrested five persons and seized firearms, ammunition, suspected narcotics and other items during an intelligence-led operation at the Tamale Aboabo Scrap Area. The operation was conducted on Monday, September 21, 2026, by the Regional Special Operations Team, popularly known as RED MARIA, following what police described as credible intelligence on suspected drug-related and other criminal activities in the area.

The Ghana Football Association (GFA) has appointed former Ghana international Godwin Attram as assistant coach of the Black Stars as part of a technical restructuring ahead of the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers. Attram replaces Desmond Ofei, who, according to the GFA, will focus exclusively on his role as head coach of Ghana’s U-23 side, the Black Meteors.

GoldBod Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Sammy Gyamfi has welcomed President John Dramani Mahama’s directive to restore the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) to the list of Port Inspection Agencies. Mr Gyamfi said the recent seizure of a large consignment of cocaine in another jurisdiction, traced to a Ghanaian port, raised concerns about monitoring and inspection systems at the country’s ports.

The Ghana Catholic Bishops' Conference has called for urgent and coordinated action to tackle illicit drug trafficking and abuse in Ghana. The Bishops said the recent seizure of nearly 3.9 tonnes of cocaine in Dunkirk, France, allegedly concealed in a container of plastic waste from Ghana, highlights the seriousness of the drug menace. In a statement signed by the President of the Conference, Most Rev. Matthew Kwasi Gyamfi, the Bishops said the issue must not be treated merely as a criminal matter.

Ghana and Panama have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to officially commence bilateral political consultations between the two countries. The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and his Panamanian counterpart, Javier Eduardo Martínez-Acha Vásquez, on the sidelines of the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York. Mr Ablakwa announced the signing in a Facebook post on Monday, September 21.
